Organizational Transparency

In accordance with the DC Public Charter School Board’s School Transparency Policy, below is key information covering the operations of District of Columbia International Public Charter School (DCI).

Board of Trustees

The DCI Board of Trustees makes critical decisions pertaining to management, facilities, finance, and fundraising and serves in the role of School Board. Our senior staff translates vision into practice and guides the strategic direction of the school. All Board of Trustees meetings are open to the public.

      • DCI Board meetings are open to the public, per the DC Open Meetings Act. Public attendance is for purposes of observation only. Except for specially invited staff making presentations requested by the Board, only trustees are permitted to participate in board reporting, deliberations, and voting. At the Board’s discretion, the Board of Trustees may provide members of the public with an opportunity to provide public comment. Public comment periods will be announced on the Board agenda. When public comment is on the agenda, individuals wishing to provide a public comment must sign up at least 48-hours in advance via the sign-up process defined in the meeting notice. Individuals who sign up to speak must provide their name, contact information (email, phone) and identify the topic or issue they wish to speak about. Speakers who require accommodations such as translation are requested to identify any such needs in the sign up process. Individuals who signed up to speak will be allocated up to 2 minutes each to provide public comment. Generally, Board members do not respond to public comment during the meeting. If follow-up is required due to the nature of the comments, the Chair of the Board will work with school leadership or other relevant parties to respond accordingly following the Board meeting. The Board may ask clarifying questions but will otherwise refrain from commenting on community comments during the comment period. When public comment is on the agenda, the Board will allocate up to 10 minutes for public comment. In the event of significant turnout, the board may preference students first and then families and staff in the allocation of time for public comment. While the Board will do its best to accommodate all speakers who sign up, there is no guarantee that all such individuals will be able to speak at any given meeting. If the number of speakers is too large to be reasonably accommodated, the Chair may ask speakers to voluntarily combine their comments or submit comments in writing to the Board. Speakers are limited to one presentation per meeting. Public comments should be addressed to the entire Board and not to individual Board members, school staff, or other members of the audience. Public comments should maintain professional decorum and respect. Speakers must use commonly accepted rules of courtesy, respect, decorum, dignity, and good taste. The use of obscenity, vulgarity, personal attacks, or offensive language will be ruled out of order. The Board will not allow public comment or complaints regarding individual students, individual student disciplinary matters, or matters involving pending litigation or administrative hearings. These prohibitions are intended to protect student and staff privacy.  The Chair may conclude comments from any speaker if the Chair determines that comments are concerning inappropriate topics, unprofessional, or otherwise harmful. Written testimony may be provided at any time to [email protected]
