Welcome to Middle School at DCI!

Below are resources to make the transition as easy as possible.

It takes time to adjust to both Middle School and DCI. Here are some resources to make the transition from elementary school easier. Coming to school on the first day with some knowledge of all of these points will set students up for success at DCI!

Learn how to keyboard!

We can’t emphasize how important this skill will be to your child’s success at DCI. Because we are a 1:1 technology school, everything possible will be done via technology. Free and fun keyboarding programs are available online.

Learn about appropriate internet use

Learn how to use a cellphone responsibly

Learn how to use public transportation

Read about Middle School.

Here are some books kids and parents have enjoyed:

  • A Smart Girl’s Guide to Starting Middle School (American Girl) (American Girl Library)
  • The Middle School Survival Guide: How to Survive from the Day Elementary School Ends until the Second High School Begins
  • The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Middle School
  • Be Confident in Who You Are (Middle School Confidential Series)

Learn how to manage your classes.

Unlike in elementary school, middle schoolers at DCI must learn how to transition from class to class and manage classwork from different teachers. You will use Google Classroom. Here is a sample schedule:
