Yolanda Whitted

8th Grade teacher

I am a proud Chicagoan who is grateful to teach English at DC International School. Understanding my story, challenges, and triumphs as an urban Afro-Latinx helps me better serve diverse populations of both students and parents, especially those in urban areas. My primary focus in the classroom is creating an aesthetic connection to the text and encouraging inquiry-based learning to authentically engage students in the writing process. In addition to teaching English, I’ve also taught Film, coached cheer, facilitated drama, yearbook, newspaper, Film, dance and Youth Action clubs. I also have experience as both an international instructional leader and education with a wide range of abilities both inside and outside of the classroom including curriculum development, design and professional development for Dallas ISD, The College Board, Institución Educativa Nets in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Abu Dhabi, UAE as well as the United Private Schools system in Muscat, Oman. I am also an active North Carolina Central University alumna, as well as a member of Sigma Tau Delta, The National Council of Teachers of English, the American Federation of Teachers, Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented, and All Hands and Hearts Smart Response.
