Darcy Hood

English Teacher

Darcy was born and raised just outside of Boston, in Waltham, Massachusetts, but has lived in the DC area for over 20 years! She has her B.A. in English, Creative Writing concentration, from George Mason University and her M.Ed, Educational Psychology concentration, from the University of Virginia. She is also certified to teach English as a Second Language, Pre-K - 12. She has taught both middle school and high school English, including a year teaching at Sturgis Charter Public School, an all IB high school in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Every school she has worked at has been a part of the International Baccalaureate program and she is thrilled to be able to continue teaching through the IB lens here at DCI. In addition to teaching English, she is excited to be the CAS / Service Learning Coordinator at DCI for the 2018/2019 school year! In her free time, Darcy enjoys volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and various local shelters, participating in professional development opportunities, taking classes (her goal for this year is to “refresh” her Spanish language proficiency), reading, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends. While she is a lifelong Boston sports fan, she also loves the Washington Nationals and enjoys going to ball games whenever possible.
