Dana Mitchell

Middle School Assistant Principal

Let’s go, DCI community! To say that I have a passion for teaching, leading, and imparting wisdom would be an understatement. I LOVE education and have spent about 15 years perfecting my take on this craft. My pedagogical practice and experience date back to seven years of service to the YMCA, in the role of Assistant Director of Youth Programs. From there, I spent time in the classroom as an ELA and Theatre Teacher, while simultaneously obtaining an M.Ed. Shortly after, I knew that I wanted to play a vital role in other educators honing their skill sets, as I did, so that students were better prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. I began using data and strategic coaching and development strategies for the betterment of teachers in the charter school realm, as well as the private consultation arena. I have had the pleasure of growing with the DC, MD, and VA school districts. Such a diverse range of encounters led me to DCI...a school known for its academic excellence and global-mindedness! Though I adore education, it’s not the only thing that I do—when I am not serving in school, you can find me spending time with family, volunteering at my church, eating, or laughing ferociously! I enjoy both the performing and fine arts. I am overjoyed to serve as our Middle School Assistant Principal and I look forward to pursuing excellence with you.
