Charlie Cornelius

Special Education Teacher

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Minnesota, next to my home town of St. Paul. After a brief stint as a newspaper reporter there I moved to DC with my now-wife in 2009. I have since received a Masters in Teaching from UDC, and am dually-highly qualified in History and SPED. Before joining DCI last year, I taught History and SPED for 5 years at a DC charter school. At DCI I teach Self-Contained, a class that covers all core subjects for a small group (6) of students across all grade levels with various learning disabilities. I am committed to making sure my students have a safe, supported environment that meets their specific learning needs while challenging them with real-life applications of academic skills. Outside of school you will find me working on my Shepard Park house, relaxing with my wife on a patio, playing with my Newfoundland, or chasing after my infant son (DCI class of 2035!).
