Carolina Covarrubias

Hola! I'm excited to be joining DCI! Originally from Chile, I was raised in Washington, D.C. I have been teaching Spanish for 15 years, from beginner to advanced levels, focusing on language skills but also designing courses that integrate Spanish and Latin American art, music, history, and literature. Students deserve a classroom experience that is engaging, compelling, and respectful. Language always operates within a context and a culture, and I believe through bilingual education we embrace the global citizen we have within us. My background includes a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art (University of Maryland) and a Masters in Latin American Studies focused on bilingual education (Georgetown University). In addition to teaching and speaking Spanish at home, I enjoy taking long runs in D.C., visiting museums, traveling abroad to visit family, and cooking up a storm with my Swiss husband and two young daughters.
