DCI Athletics

Overview

The District of Columbia International Public Charter School strives to support our student-athletes both in and outside of the classroom. Our athletics program was created to teach students vital social and life skills through teamwork, healthy competition, and exercise. We offer a large range of sports for all grades and skill levels.

3/10/2021: Reintroduction to Spring Sports:

Below is a recording of our Reintroduction to Spring Sports Parent Meeting that took place on March 9th. The Google Slides can be found here and contain important links mentioned in the presentation. If there are additional questions after watching the presentation, please email athletics@dcinternationalschool.org.

Athletics Update (as of 1/21/2021):

Sports are tentatively supposed to start on February 1, 2021. As far as we know, we can’t start sports until we enter Phase 3 of the city’s reopening plan. Phase 2 was extended until March 31st. We will start sports as soon as we can.

If students want to tryout for sports when they do start here’s what is needed:

1) Talk to your adult about getting an updated physical. We need one that is less than one year old on file

2) Make sure your adult completes and signs DCI Consent & Liability Waiver and the Concussion Acknowledgement Form
Why? Because research shows that injuries increase during the first six weeks of a season. Most of us haven’t been doing rigorous physical activity for a long time and we don’t want you to get hurt.
How often? Two days a week minimum. We will offer sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
But, Ms. Arlisa, I did work out! Have your adult send an email to athletics@dcinternationalschool.org letting us know how many days a week and how many hours a day you worked out and that they are okay with you missing our sessions.

Reintroduction to Sports SY 2020-2021

The District of Columbia State Athletic Association in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office and the DC Department of Health have officially suspended Winter Sports. A modified schedule has been proposed by the State Athletic Association which mainly affects our high school sports. However, the Public Charter School Athletic Association will most likely run our middle school sports on the same schedule. We will have a PCSAA Athletic Directors meeting sometime in the near future to discuss next steps, which I will share with our DCI Community.
