Penny’s Pledge
“I believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore the world, so I am pledging to donate $500 from every DC listing and purchase that closes from a DCI Family, Friend or Referral. There is no limit, there is no expiration… just my promise to support the DCI Voyager Campaign!”

DC International School’s mission to inspire “inquiring, engaged, knowledgeable and caring secondary students who are multi-lingual, culturally competent, and committed to proactively creating a socially just and sustainable world,” extends far beyond classroom walls. In order to give students real-world learning and service experiences, this mission reaches into the local community and onto the world stage.

Foreign languages and cultures can be taught, to some extent, inside an American classroom. However, to engage students on a deeper level, to teach them true cultural competency and the nuances of language fluency, DCI must send students to other countries.

DCI’s international trips will be centered around language and cultural immersion, as well as community service. Students will travel to a community where they will live with host families, hone their language skills, experience a new culture firsthand, and learn local needs. They can also tie these experiences back into their learning at DCI, delving more deeply into these experiences during the Student Led Inquiry course and other electives. Every child at DCI will participate in these unique learning experiences twice: in the summers before the 9th and 11th grades.

To ensure that all students are able to participate in these unique and essential learning experiences, DCI has set a goal to raise $60,000 towards international trips in Spring 2016. This new undertaking, called the Voyager Fund, will be created with funds raised by the DCI student body, family members, and sponsors.

Our goal is for every student at DCI to have a donation, no matter the size, given on his or her behalf. Go to https://squareup.com/store/dci-voyager-fund to give to a specific ATL class.
