DCI’s academics are built on the following three principles:

  • International Baccalaureate for all
  • 1:1 technology ratio
  • Language immersion in French, Spanish, & Chinese

As an authorized IB World School, DCI offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for grades 6-10. For grades 11-12, DCI plans to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Career Certificate. Learn more from the IB website.

DCI achieves a 1:1 student to technology ratio by giving every student a Chromebook that he or she can take home after school and keep over the summer. This provides access to individualized learning tools and allows students to explore their interests 365 days a year. To learn more about the benefits of our technology program and how it helped DCI beat summer learning loss, click here.

DCI offers language immersion in French, Spanish, & Chinese. Students take their target language class every day and electives are also taught in the target language. There will also be the opportunity to learn a third language through a beginning track. Students new to language learning will be afforded a beginning language track and content in English to start. The school day runs from 8:15 to 4:00. Each school day includes an Approaches to Learning class that teaches advanced study and social skills that will help our students achieve success in the DCI program. Students attend English, Math and Language B (the student’s immersion language) every day.  Societies, Science, PE,  Arts (Drama and Visual) and Electives are be on alternating days. All students take a Design class as one of the mandatory electives. For a sample schedule, please click here.

Coursework is differentiated within our curriculum so that all learners are challenged and supported through our rigorous program. We want all students to succeed and offer targeted assistance during and after school. We believe in coteaching and specialized instruction for students who require extra support. Our 1:1 technology program ensures that instruction and student work can be differentiated and accommodated so that students are truly able to show what they know. Our innovative grading and homework policies focus on the development of the whole child both within and across academic subjects. We also have an assessment policy and a language policy in accordance with the International Baccalaureate.

All of our courses are described in one-pagers for families. You can find them here.
